New Testament

Mark — Chapter 13

  1. As he went out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Teacher, see what manner of stones and what buildings!”
  2. Jesus answered him, “Do you see these great buildings? There will not be left one stone upon another, that will not be thrown down.”
  3. As he sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately,
  4. “Tell us, when will these things be? What will be the sign when all these things are about to be fulfilled?”
  5. Jesus began to say to them, “Take heed that no man deceives you.
  6. Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and will deceive many.
  7. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don’t be troubled. These things must happen, but the end is not yet.
  8. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines. These things are the beginning of sorrows.
  9. But take heed to yourselves. They will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will stand before rulers and kings for my sake, as a testimony to them.
  10. It will turn out for you as an opportunity to bear testimony.
  11. Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand how you will answer;
  12. for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.
  13. You will be delivered up even by parents, and brothers, and relatives, and friends. They will put some of you to death.
  14. You will be hated by all men for my name’s sake. But he who endures to the end, the same shall be saved.
  15. When you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
  16. Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter in, to take anything out of his house.
  17. Let him who is in the field not turn back to take his coat.
  18. Woe to those who are with child, and to those who nurse in those days!
  19. Pray that your flight will not be in the winter.
  20. For in those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until now, and never shall be.
  21. And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he shortened the days.
  22. Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ,’ or ‘Look, he is there,’ don’t believe it.
  23. For false Christs and false prophets will arise, and will show signs and wonders, to deceive, if possible, even the elect.
  24. Take heed, I have told you beforehand.
  25. But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give her light,
  26. and the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers which are in the heavens will be shaken.
  27. Then they will see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory.
  28. And then he will send his angels, and gather together his elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of the earth to the farthest part of heaven.
  29. Learn a parable from the fig tree: When its branch is yet tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.
  30. So you also, when you see these things coming to pass, know that it is near, even at the doors.
  31. Most certainly I tell you, this generation shall not pass away, until all these things are done.
  32. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
  33. But of that day and that hour knows no one, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
  34. Take heed, watch and pray; for you don’t know when the time is.
  35. It is like a man going away, leaving his house, and giving authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanding the doorkeeper to watch.
  36. Watch therefore, for you don’t know when the master of the house is coming, at evening, or at midnight, or at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning;
  37. lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping.
  38. What I say to you, I say to all: Watch.”
